Fundación Agaves Silvestres is a non-profit organization dedicated to the reforestation of wild agaves in Mexico. WIth the increased popularity of mezcales and other agave distillates worldwide, the demand for the wild agaves could vastly outpace their natural ability to reproduce.
Our first reforestation project involves reforesting Tobalá agaves (agave potatorum) and Madre Cuishe agaves (agave karwinskii) in the town of San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. We also export mezcales from ultra small producers as our series of “Vino de Mezcal” to fund our projects. To date, funding for Fundacion Agaves Silvestres has been through a generous grant from Wahaka Mezcal.
